Taylorsville Lions Club Activities

A Sampling of what we do.... and have done

In April of 2018 the Club held a blood drive, as well as having a booth at the Apple Blossom Festival.  We also elected our officers for 2018-2019, which term starts July 1.  In May we awarded The J. Atwell Alexander Taylorsville Lions Club Scholarship to a deserving student at Alexander Central named Lily Waters.  Full Throttle Racing is still holding their events on our grounds.  We expect to have a busy August, as the Alexander County Sheriff's Department is holding National Night Out August 7, and we are having another blood drive August 30th.  Sadly, we have also suffered some losses, as Lion Chris Randlett and Lion Raeford Thomas both passed this spring.  We hope to improve on our service activities from last year as well.

In November and December the Club coordinated the Alexander Angel Tree project, bringing toys and clothing to 872 children in our community with the help of numerous churches, business, and individuals, as well as the Alexander County Schools and DSS.  We thank everyone who helped in this effort.  We look forward to having a successful blood drive in April

The Club recently participated in some community events to raise awareness and to do some fundraising.  Splitting a booth with the Autism Society, the Club recently sold brooms and handed out literature at the Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts and the Taylorsville Apple Festival.  We also sponsored Lion Ray Coleman's trip to the VIP Fishing Tournament on October 16.  Also, the Club donated some 40 teddy bears to the Alexander County Sheriff's Department for use as trauma bears, to be carried in a squad car and used to comfort children in bad situations.

On July 10th, 2017, our club officers were installed by District Governor George Culp of the Concord Lions Club.  He gave a program emphasizing service, and our President, Andrew Ferguson, outlined goals for the 2017-2018 Lion Year.  We will be hosting a blood drive at the Lions Den on our Fairgrounds on August 31 from 2:30-7pm.  We are also planning for the Angel Tree project and other upcoming activities.
